Celebration of Reading and Creativity
June 19th, 2023, marked Reading Day, celebrated in honor of P.N. Panicker, the visionary who inspired the Kerala Library Movement and encouraged Keralites to embrace the transformative power of reading. To commemorate this day and Reading Week, Peace Public School organized the Peace Literature Festival, a remarkable three-day event that celebrated literature, culture, and creativity.
The festival was an extraordinary blend of over 250 student participants, eight prominent literary and cultural personalities, and diverse cultural performances. It became an unforgettable platform for students to engage with literature through insightful discussions, creative experiences, and cultural showcases
A Journey Through Literature
The festival opened doors to a unique journey into the world of poetry, storytelling, and creativity. Celebrated personalities enriched the event with their inspiring sessions:
- Dr. V. Hikmatulla, an acclaimed scholar and award-winning author, conducted a session on “Language and Creativity.” He shared insights into enhancing children’s imaginative world through language, offering valuable advice on developing creative skills.
- Kalpetta Narayanan, a distinguished poet, novelist, and cultural observer, captivated the audience with his talk on “Literary Secrets.” He highlighted how life’s challenges often inspire profound literature, emphasizing that writing becomes meaningful when shared with the world. He also addressed themes like women’s freedom and their unique perspectives on society.
- Kottakkal Murali, a Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award-winning music director and theatre artist, shared his experiences in theatre and the significance of storytelling. He lauded the festival as a pioneering initiative to introduce students to literature in diverse forms, including cinema.
- P. Raman, a renowned poet, delved into “Poetry and Life,” emphasizing the importance of individuality in poetry. He praised the festival for giving writers ample time to engage deeply with students, unlike other literary festivals.
- M.N. Karassery, a renowned linguist and literary critic, led a panel discussion that combined elegance with humor. He reflected on Kerala’s cultural diversity and the significance of literature in shaping progressive mindsets. He commended the festival for fostering a love for reading and artistic expression among students.
- Abdul Latif Naha, Malappuram Bureau Chief of The Hindu, discussed English literature, offering clarity and inspiration to students through his engaging responses to their questions.
Visual Storytelling Through Films
The festival also included screenings of critically acclaimed films like Stanley Ka Dabba and The Elephant Whisperer. These films offered students meaningful insights into life, encouraging them to explore various interpretations of humanity and relationships.
